Stop the work from compounding
Pause the task or routine as soon as you notice an action you did not expect. If the connected tool or account may be part of the issue, stop new use of that connection until you understand what happened.
- Pause the active objective and any routine that can repeat the action.
- Do not retry the same step or approve a similar action.
- Check the affected external service to see what actually changed.
- Remove or limit the connection if continued access creates risk.
Establish the last known good state
Identify the last step you confirmed, the first unexpected effect, and every system the action touched. Separate what you observed from what you assume so recovery begins from evidence.
Recover deliberately
Reverse the external change only when the recovery action is understood and safe. If the action cannot be reversed directly, preserve the current state and contact support before continuing the objective.
- Document the unexpected result and affected destination.
- Restore the external system to a known state when a safe reversal exists.
- Correct the permission, assumption, or approval boundary that allowed the action.
- Resume only after the objective and next step are clear.
Bring the right context to support
Include the conversation, affected service, approximate time, expected result, and what you observed. Do not repeat the action only to reproduce it. If sensitive data or account security may be involved, say so at the beginning of the message.
